A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO CAMP - 3C - Our Children at Camp

Richard was involved with setting up the first Indian Village at Forest Home.  Traditionally the Hollywood Presbyterian Church would be the first junior camp of the summer.  The men were still tying up Tepees that first Sunday and they sent word down to the registration area to hold off sending the campers up because they were not quite ready for them.  We made an exception by letting Mark attend the first Indian Village camp even though he was a couple of years younger.
We learned very early that camp was a great place for our children to grow up.   There was no price one could pay for the role models and love and care they received from the college age staff.  Of course we had our challenges as well.  The time we watched the huge round earth ball roll over our five year old son, Mark, out on the meadow.  Or, Mark losing his front teeth spacer on the grounds.  Or, my horror when I heard our daughter, Nancy, saying, "here snaky, snaky" and discovered she was encouraging a long slug to follow her.  Paul was just an infant during these years.  The camp leaders allowed us to have a high school baby sitter with us to help with the three children.  The children were able to enjoy many of the activities including the pool, hikes and campfires.
We were blessed and very grateful that all three of them were active in the camp and conference ministry through the years.
