There are so many obstacles to
experiencing contentment in this world.
We can become our worst enemy. If
I feel like I haven’t succeeded in life or accomplished what I may think is
significant, I get down on myself. That’s
discontentment. We can choose to live
our lives to serve our own needs or choose to care for the needs of our
neighbors and relatives. God doesn’t
make junk. As I’ve said before we are
worth a lot otherwise Christ would not have gone to the cross on our
behalf.
Each of us has individual gifts and
talents. We can hide these gifts “under
a bushel” or we can trust God and take
the risk of using these talents to serve others. We can choose to respond with an active life
of service to represent a God of love and compassion. We are the hands and feet of God. We may make mistakes and even sin in the
process of attempting to “do good.” God is with us in all situations and stands
with us even in our mistakes. We can acknowledge
what we have done—the good and bad--and forgive ourselves because we are a
forgiven people and get up off the “poor me” couch and try again. We can also thank God for the good that is
accomplished towards helping others especially those who are less fortunate.
Christ gave his all and denied
himself. We are called to pick up our
cross and follow him.
